This is a picture of my Challenger 1.  I completed it in the fall of 99 and flew it about 6 times before the snow came. Too busy to put skis on it last winter. This in a 1998 kit.  It is the 3rd plane I have built before it.  In 1994-1996, a Fisher Flying Products Dakota Hawk, in 1997-8 an RV 6A.  Sold the Vans and still have the Dakota Hawk --- guess I like slow flying best.  I've been flying since 1956 and was a CFI active for about 17 yrs.  Still CFI but not active.  I have my own 1850 grass strip in Rural Hudson, WI. but am moving to a new home a few miles from here.  I have a hanger now in New Richmond WI. Better deal-- owning your own strip is a lot of work to keep up unless you fly a lot.  You're working on it as much as your flying.

Toms tail brace mod.
This is a picture of tail cable braces added to both sides of my Challenger 1. This fully stopped the tail vibration. Prior to this I had put all AN bolts into the tail system (no clips) Put in 4 more motor mounts, balanced the prop. Nothing else worked. And now I know why because not of these will stop a tail vibration because they are not attacking the cause.  I mentioned that while trouble shooting I found that the vibration would go away every time that I stepped on the rudder enough to align the rudder with the vertical stabilizer. This was my clue. My plane had 6 hours on it when I first noticed the vibration--- I really think it was there all along.
